At the old RAH, the doctors had their own private bar to wind down and debrief after gruelling shifts and all kinds of amazing work. Named for a legendary member of the medical community, Mark Jolly, it had been open since 1974. Now with the hospital moving to the west of the CBD, we’ve been working with medical staff to carry the tradition forward and create the all-new Jolly Bar. This time the bar will be open to all, as well as keeping the culture and traditions of some of our state’s best doctors, as they find a new place to call home at the end of a shift or at the weekend.
The West Oak Hotel Gallery Room has been fully rejuvenated. It suits private functions of 20 to 140 people and we’re happy to chat about your specific requirements from exhibitions and small conference meetings, to birthdays and special events. The room is equipped with A/V, access to the Jolly Bar, upstairs at the West Oak, and can be customised to your event.
Whatever you have in mind please contact us to talk about your requirements for your next event. We are flexible on catering, seating, tables, A/V and welcome parties large or small.
We’re well equipped for Birthdays & Celebrations, Galleries & Exhibitions, Seated Dinners and Corporate Functions.
Bringing back the Oak
Established in 1838, The Royal Oak was once at the heart of Adelaide’s west end. It has lived through more than 175 years and several incarnations to survive as one of the city’s oldest continual licensed venues. Even today, if you look closely under the verandah, you can find a mark from the original telegraph poles in this photo.
Now re-launching as the West Oak Hotel, we’re returning this heritage icon to its former standing as the best in the west, while adding a few modern conveniences along the way.
And the new Jolly Bar upstairs continues a tradition for our medical friends at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, just a stone’s throw from the Hotel. If you like gin, craft beer and decent wine, relax in a cosy spot and discover the full story behind this upstairs bar.
